In our department we are experts in operating the Hip Joint using minimally invasive approach which serves all the muscles of the Hip joint, exactly the contrary is in the other conventional approaches , the muscles should be incised, which may affect the outcome of the operation.
Professor Drescher has introduced for the first time in Germany the combination between Minimally Invasive Approach and the scientifically based treatment strategy ‘’Fast-track surgery’’. In this Strategy , the patient is perfectly prepared before the surgical intervention with physiotherapy as well as preoperative education in order to take the first steps on the day of surgery can.
The advantages for the patient as compared to the conventional methods:
- Quick mobilization after surgery
First getting up and getting around on crutches on the day of surgery. - Complete preservation of Hip muscles
Preserving the muscles ensures good muscle power after the surgery which prevents limping and provides the joint with stability to minimize the risk of joint dislocation. - Low blood loss during surgery
Prof. Drescher could scientifically demonstrate that his patients lose less blood and wake fitter from anesthesia. Since he has introduced this method in the our Rummelsberg, most of the patients do not need postoperative blood transfusion which reduces the risk of transmission of diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis. - Reduced risk of thrombosis
The rapid rehabilitation in turn reduces the post-operative thrombosis, i.e. the risk of getting blood clots in the deep veins or even the lungs. - Cosmetic
Visually, the scar is around 6 centimeters more than halved in comparison with the conventional approaches. . In addition, this scar is not painful as with the other surgical approaches which are almost over a bony prominence. - Specific preparation for the operation
Targeted preoperative physiotherapy prepares the whole body before surgery, so that a faster postoperative rehabilitation is possible after surgery. - Targeted education
The team of Prof. Drescher supplies the patients with the important information and answers all the Patients’ questions. - Minimal pain
This minimally invasive approach makes the patient nearly pain-free which make early mobilization possible and thus short rehabilitation period. - Less risk of infection
By sparing the tissue and muscles, the wound heals faster. With early mobilization and improved Immune System, there are hardly any wound infections.
