Patella- Maltracking

Patella tracking  plays a major role for a proper function of the whole knee joint. A congenital or acquired instability in the Patellfemoral  joint (patellar luxation) leads to premature wear.

Therapy
After extensive diagnostics, Reconstruction of the medial Patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) as well as other bone corrective measures [osteotomy] can be done to stabilize the running of the kneecap.

MPFL
This Ligament is usually injured in cases of Patella dislocation and may lead to  recurrent dislocation. Reconstruction of this Ligament using tendons around the Knee stabilize the Patella and prevents recurrent dislocation.

Osteotomy
Bony Operations - such as osteotomy of the tibial tuberosity of deeping of the Sulcus (Trochlea-Plasty) - are indicated in cases with failure of the soft tissue operations to stabilize the Patella  and to get homogenous movement of the patella in the sulcus of the femur.
