Innerhalb der Klinik für Radiologie und Neuroradiologie wurde die Sektion Experimentelle Neuroradiologie gebildet.
Die Forschungstätigkeit befasst sich mit Fragestellungen aus dem Gebiet der Interventionellen Neuroradiologie sowie der neurovaskulären Anatomie und Embryologie. Der Fokus liegt eindeutig in der Erforschung und endovaskulären Therapie sämtlicher Gefäßmissbildungen im Kindesalter, von Neugeborenen mit Vena Galeni Malformation bis hin zu Jugendlichen mit Hämangiomen und vaskulären Malformationen. Zudem ist die Behandlung hochkomplexer, intrakranieller Aneurysmen mit sogenanntem Kissing-Y-Stenting ein weiterer Forschungspunkt.
Die Entwicklungs- und Forschungsarbeiten werden unter anderem in einem Forschungslabor der Klinik für Radiologie und Neuroradiologie mithilfe diverser Fluss- und Phantommodelle in vitro durchgeführt. Gefäßmodelle werden zudem auch für Lehr- und Ausbildungszwecke im Rahmen der DeGIR/DGNR voll zertifizierten Ausbildungsstätte (Module: A,B,C,D,E,F) genutzt und bei der Weiterentwicklung und Festung neuer Katheterverfahren genutzt.
Die Anwendung von neu entwickelten Verfahren findet in Zusammenarbeit mit ärztlichen und nicht-ärztlichen Mitarbeitern der Klinik für Radiologie und Neuroradiologie statt; darüber hinaus bestehen interne Kooperationen mit den Abteilungen für Neurologie, Neurochirurgie, Neuropädiatrie und Neonatologie. Externe Kooperationen bestehen mit dem Institut für Diagnostische und Interventionelle Neuroradiologie der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover (MHH) mit Herrn Prof. Lanfermann, sowie mit der Technischen Werkstatt der MHH.
